DBA is a blood disorder the bone marrow is unable to produce enough haemoglobin, platlets and white blood cells, to clot the blood and fight infection.
Causing lethargy persistant illness white skin and a weak immune system.
Diagnosis is around 2 years old and treatment is with transfusions and iron injections at 5 week intervals.
DBA is very rare I suppose it could be have been a badge of honour.
I mean there's 210,000 paraplegics, watch it one day we'll take over and then you'll know all about it.

I was born with DBA and had a successful bone marrow transplant 2 years ago,now I've English DNA would you believe!
if you want to know anything about this disease talk to me, I don't bite.

You and I are 2 of a kind, we're both anemic but only thing is about me is I don't have DBA I've heard about, did some research on it on the net it's pretty interesting to learn and hear about. I take iron too, and b12 shots. Something you may consider with your doc that's pretty good with anemia.

I had a transplant 2 years ago and it cured me so those nasty injections are a thing of the past. I have to say the immuno suppressants are a pain in the arse altogether

What kind of anaemia do you have

Lol on the injection part. I have iron deficiency I've had it since childhood. It was due to malnutrition.

I read a snippet in a paper today.
Doctors are claiming that anemia can be prevented if the cord is cut later on. Fine, great, it takes them over 20 years to come up with this?

Do you take supplements for calcium deficency talking of which a Guinness sounds good

No I only take an iron vitamin it's called Vitafol, ever heard or taken that? And the b12 shots that's all I take for it.

I don't understand why your body isn't making it's own iron.
After the body is replenished with vitamins and food, it should start to produce haemaglobin, unless there's another reason.

I've to take calcium supplements for my bones to keep the calcium level up, I dont fancy osteopirosis, imagine the piss takes at my tender age.

I can produce the iron when I'm on my treatment, but once I stop I can't make any more iron. My doc is afraid that if she takes me off the treatment my blood count might decrese, making me susseptible to pale skin and weakness that I'd get when my anemia flairs up. As I stated in my first post I was malnurished as a little kid due to a personal situation I won't get into, but that's what lead to me being anemic in the first place and I never grew out of it.

I don't understand why your system can't recover don't worry,it's a former med student gemini thing, smile we hate a question without an answer.

As a kid, I was white like a ghost, I'd scare people by jumping out of dark places and screaming,it worked till they got used to it.
